Evidently Toshiba is a bit miffed at the recent Blue-ray claims and are letting people know the truth. According to Toshiba the recent statements made by Blue-ray chairman Frank Simonis were “propaganda” and offered a rebuttal point by point.

Olivier Van Wynendaele, Deputy General manager of HD DVD at Toshiba Ltd claims the reason Blue-ray is out-selling HD DVD by 3:1 in the US is because new PS3 owners are “redeeming free Blu-ray movie vouchers given to them by Sony that they have to exchange at retail stores”. Olivier Van Wynendaele also points out that Toshiba has sold 200,000 HD DVD players in the US while (true) Blue-ray players have only reached 30,000. Van Wynendaele argues PS3 sales cannot be counted since PS3 owners could be choosing to only play games and not watch Blue-ray movies.
