Joystiq + Screen Play + Xbox Live

We’re always interested in what the people are thinking and comments are a great place to find that. Unlike the message boards, where mostly negative posts are found, comments to a central story can often times be a pretty balanced collection.
Here are some comments found on Screen Play and Joystiq concerning the topic of ‘How much longer can Xbox Live charge consumers?’
“Sonys PS3 online thing is free, Nintendos one is free (although hardly comparable), and theres lots of free services on PC like Steam and XFire… I dont know how MS can justify theirs not being free…” - dude
“Can I ask that only people that have played LIVE comment… I’m paying for it, I pay the same price for LIVE as what I do for WOW, and WOW is just one game… Live is just not a server that hooks people up together, there are endless Demos, Movies, game hint videos, and value adds like previously mentioned FREE exclusive episodes of South Park for download.
I used to pay $10 a month for a gaming mag with a handfull of demos, i Pay less than that now and have access to EVERY demo 24/7 and classic arcade games and the works.. if you have a 360, just use the free month subscription to the gold service and you wont look back…but for people bagging it saying oh Nintendo and Sony have free services…go try LIVE and compare it to these two, seriously..Microsoft could make LIVE a total piece of crap and let people use it for free too you know!” - MarkA
“Critics will say other systems are proposing multiplayer for free, but there’s just nowhere near the level of integration and ease of use. Just the universal friends list is a major boon, and this seamless interconnectivity is going to benefit the PC or crossplay space as well.” - DC
“I’m unlikely the renew my Gold subscription when it expires. I simply don’t seem to get the value for it. They need to do more than offer online play for the Gold subscriber. More exclusive content would probably be a good way to start. I think the point has been made many times, by many different people that Live Silver should have free peer-to-peer play and Live Gold should have a minimal subscription for play on dedicated servers.” - Awesome Wells
“Um, you say Sony is beginning to get its act together because they’ve made an ANNOUNCEMENT that they are hopefully, one day, going to have some 2nd rate Second Life rip-off on their console? Great deduction there… Because, you know, Sony always keeps their promises about everything. I can’t believe the number of people out there clamoring for that crap.. Its as if Sony is so far down in a hole of shame, that they could rip a fart and people are willing to accept that as good news.” - killr0y
“paying for xbox live on a pc is a entirely diffrent beast than on a xbox 360. it’s value on a console outweighs it’s value on a pc. i think that’s the reason for letting whoever has a gold account on a xbox 360 also use the same account on a pc. that’s great news for them, but $50 a year for pc only is insane when it’s all basically free already…..” - el moco

PS3 + Interview + Screen Play

Sony Computer Entertainment Australia’s Managing Director Michael Ephraim had a few things to tell Screen Play about last week’s Australian media launch of the PlayStation 3. Such as:
“Back to the Wii comment, we have to compare apples with apples. They do not have these kind of applications. We think PS3 is not a product to be compared with Wii, it is a completely different product. This is a digital hub, that is a games console.”
Personally, as a gamer, I like game consoles but what do I know.
