Forza 2 Steering
Xbox360 + GameSpot + Message Boards
07.07.2007 at 12:21 pm
Help cmw3218 decide if he should get the Microsoft steering wheel.
“For anyone who has the steering wheel, is it worth buying to play forza with. Does it make the gameplay alot better as compared to the controller. Also what other games can you use the steering wheel with. Thanks”
“NO! I had it, and was fortunate enough to be able to take it back. Its way too touchy, and when you lower the sensitivity, it feels more like driving a boat. I’ve had way more fun with that game since I got rid of the wheel. Also, the bundle that comes with Project Gotham, Is having trouble installing the force feedback function properly, My experience, and the guy at EB, said, I was the fifth to mention that. So yeah, my opinion… not worth the money. Drive a real car if you want a good wheel experience.”
“I totally disagree…the wheel is great fun and enhances the racing experience…the force feedback is great and its well worth the money…another great racing game for the wheel is Flatout: Ultimate Carnage…”
“It’s all going to be opinions, Just decide if $200 is a good price tag to play a game. People who chose to keep the wheel are going to say it rocks, and people who got rid of it are going to say it sucks. Sure you can use it to play other games, and If racing is really really your thing, then maybe to need that wheel. See if you can try one out somewhere first, because its really a matter of, “hell yeah!” or “what the f…”.”

Standing Up for the Little Guy
Xbox360 + GameSpot + Message Boards + Xbox Live
07.07.2007 at 12:01 pm
A 14 year old going by the handle ‘mwc0422′ has started a thread titled ‘To Everyone with Problems about 14 yr Olds on XBL’.
“Let me start off by saying one thing; I am 14. Now, let me get to my reason why I posted this. I know half of the 12-14 year olds on XBL are extremely annyoing, but I know that I am probally one of the most mature 14 year-olds out there. To make a long story short, please don’t judge every single 12-14 year old by saying that every one of us is inmature and shouldn’t be allowed to use a mic and etc. I know I probally didn’t post this where it is supposed to be so my bad. Look forward to feedback about this.”
“I’m fourteen as well and agree, but the matter of fact is that there are always going to be jerks on live who are more immature than anybody because they are just plain jerks (I used a word beside jerks but it was censored). There’s no getting around it. There are ALWAYS going to be people who will read stuff like this and automatically disregard it just because the oppinion came from someone who is younger than they are.”
“parents need to do their job, that’s all. If they think their kid is mature enough to handle it, then let them do so.”
“there are immature people at any age…”
“Stop trying to prove yourself and just play. People only have problems with jerks and immaturity, regardless of age. It just so happens that most of those people are younger.”
“I think the ‘older then 14 yr olds’ in this topic have proven that immaturity isn’t an age thing. You seriosuly can’t enjoy a game becuase someone on it has a high pitched voice? Seek help. The M rating isn’t so you can avoid kids… I’ve seen racism before, and sexist people, but I don’t even think thier is a name for people who bigot peoples age. It’s ok, i’m sure none of YOU were ever young and wanted to play a videogame…”
“I don’t care. If parents are going to sue the hell out of companies for having M rated content and tramatizing kids or having them do acts of violence then kids shouldn’t be playing M rated games in the first place. Their not even legally aloud to purchase M rated games. And as we’ve heard many times weather it be news on the front of the new paper or kids freaking cursing over a mic, we all know that it’s best to keep kids away from M rated games. It really doesn’t matter if there is a select few who can propperly handle the content.”
“younger kids on xbl should be fine as long as they are calm and respectful. ive played with little kids that scream, shout, insult other players for no reason those are the bad ones. the kids that arnt even in 6th grade and are playing gears of war. ive also played with some kids that are calm and say smart things those are the good ones the “mature ones”.”
“Some of you younger guys will get what the older guys are talking about when you get into your twenties. Until then you won’t understand, because I thought I was mature for my age when I was 14, but now being 22 I wish I could go back in time and kick my own ass, and I’m sure that when I’m 30 I will think the same about myself today.”

MS Drops Big Cash
Xbox360 + PS3 + Kotaku + Fanboys + Comments + Microsoft
06.18.2007 at 9:54 am
Kotaku is reporting that the amount dropped on exclusive GTA content is $50,000,000. That’s a pretty good sum but more fun to us is the good ol’ fashion fanboy slug feast that ensues.
“I can’t imagine this will have a big impact on the PS3 version, most people probably won’t download it anyway. Wasted money.”
“It’s a lot of money, but if MS are certain it will help convince people into buying a 360 instead of a PS3 then it could be money well spent. And if it works they likely won’t have to pay for any more exclusives as they will have such a large install base everyone will want to be publishing on 360.”
“Yeah Rusty, most people wont download it anyway, I mean who the hell “downloads” ANYTHING nowadays!? heh heh heh (sigh).”
“Hahaha. Yah. ’cause if it’s anything people hate, it’s more content for one of the most successful franchises in gaming history. You’re right. Nobody’s interested.”
“lol, Microshit is so desperate.”
“lol, Sony fapboys are so desperate.”
“No not really. Our console happens to be future-proof. The Xbox 360 is going to be a huge fiasco just like its predecessor. If you, despite this 50 million dollar move, don’t get it, that’s your problem.”
“It’ll get better for Sony’s part soon. Sony has basically won the HD format war now as well. Prepare for onslaught, Microshit losers”
“Oh cry about it, I don’t care much about how YOUR “war” will be going, I’ll be enjoying the good content of all three brands, thank you.”
“Our console? Hahahaha. God, that’s rich. So very desperate to belong. Our console happens to be future-proof. Incidentally also present-proof, past-proof, sale-proof, profit-proof and reasonable-price-proof.”
It pretty much goes on like that for while. It’s a pretty good shot-out.

Halo 3 Beta: Feel the Wraith of the Fanboy
Xbox360 + Bungie + Halo 3
05.16.2007 at 5:27 pm
What follows is not for the faint of heart. That’s right, message board posts strait from the Bungie Forums.
There is simply no excuse for this.
“Crackdown launched in February, the Halo 3 public beta itself was announced in November of last year for Christ’s sake! Microsoft and Bungie had months on end to plan this out and make sure there weren’t any screw ups. Now, do you mean to tell me that a bunch of people at one of the world’s largest corporations couldn’t come up with a plan to release this beta on time when they had months of preperation?! First it was the map pack, and now it’s this Crackdown debacle. Microsoft, and whoever else is responsible for the beta launch, should be truly ashamed of their performance this year.”
“I agree, it simply comes down to terible planning, testing and implementation. If they had done these things properly, they wouldn’t have so many angry fans.”
“It just blows my mind how they managed to screw this up, failing to learn their lesson after the map pack delay.”
“Agreed. Months to test but at the last minute, failure. I blame XBL/Xbox/Microsoft. Not Bungie, they’ve already delivered the Beta for people (non-Crackdown’ers) already.”
“OMG i swaer to god that now that this has happened bungie need to make the beta last till july 1 and i think they did a bad job when they had all this time now whos with me on the extened time for the beta?”
“i want everyone here to make a game. as big as Halo 3. make it online. and not encounter 1 problem. stuff happens, nobodies perfect. if you took off skool/work for this, you have NO life, its gonna be there when you come back. its not like you can try to be the hightest rank, since me n many others have had it ahead of time. so quit whining.”
“Don’t give me that crap. They shouldn’t have promised. They don’t get a free ride cause their job is hard. If you promise something you have to deliver. If you don’t, then you have to deal with the -blam!- storm headed your way. They deserve every part of this.”
“The promised a BETA. A beta is unfinished and has PROBLEMS. They promised a beta and we GOT a beta. Software that is unfinished and has problems. Learn to cope man. Have you ever messed anything up? Have you even been late to work, or screwed up a big project? Should your boss flip out and fire you the first or second time you are late, even when you TOLD them you would be late cause you were new and had problems.”
“What the hell does the software being unfinished have to do with the Crackdown delay? Do you even know what you’re talking about? It hasn’t been delayed because of software issues, if that were the case then the Friends and Family invites as well as the Rule of 3 invites would also be delayed. It is ONLY the Crackdown release that is delayed, a release that is handle by the Microsoft Xbox Live team. They simply screwed up, there is no way around it. And please, don’t give this nonsense about this being too big of a release. The size of the audience has nothing to do with simply throwing the game on the marketplace and enabling the download through Crackdown. Obviously, the Xbox Live team is having some technical issues with enabling the download through Crackdown. But as I said before, with months and months of advance planning, there is no excuse for this complete failure!”
“Hey tacroy, I’m not a multi-billion dollar corporation who has had 6 months to get this right. And when I frick up, I take responsibility immediately and fix things. For the record, this isn’t the first time Bungie and M$ have messed up regarding the Halo franchise”
“Get off Bungie’s back guys! Let Bungie work! I would like to see you manage a beta program for a few thousand people. Do you have any idea what has to go into it?
-First off you have to figure out the logistics, delivery; who gets it, how to get it there, the channel for it to go across, server redundancy to assure they don’t get overloaded, caching on all those servers, etc.
-Next, they have to setup a feedback system. They have to set it up so it pulls stats correctly. They have to write their own application for this. They then have to figure out how the best way to view those stats would be, and then design a software to parse them. After that, they have to figure out a system to submit bugs.
-Then as an extra step, it has to be pretty hard to have an app verify a game is present before continuing. Xbox live will have a hell of a time trying to serve up the beta, by being launched IN A GAME. On the Xbox 360, downloads are to be launched form the dashboard not game, so that makes it even harder.
-Then what you have to do is the normal download, which it itself is hard. Bungie essentially had to put a product key check INTO the dashboard (like your windows activation key) then it had to launch the download after that, again, not to easy.
-After that, they have to make sure everyone can actually play, or get there download.
So you guys, leave Bungie alone. That isn’t even the skim of the surface, there is allot that goes into this. For those of you complaining because Crackdown won’t let them download the game, you have obviously never beta tested. The rollout of a beta goes through all sorts of hitches, get use to it if you want to beta test. It is most likely that the link in the Crackdown menu is pointing to a wrong DL link, or something similar. The link could have been changed to provide a faster or more reliable download, or a last minute porblem was seen with it, so now they have to figure out a redirect without comprimising the speed. Complaining about a problem Bungie knows about won’t help.”
“Cullend is right, everyone needs to relax and be patient. The Xbox Live team is working on the servers and the beta should be up before the day ends. Harassing Bungie isn’t going to make it work any sooner.”
“patience is one thing.. being a -blam!- is another… they are only near 5 hours past the time they predicted.. that doesnt destroy credibility or anything”
“I disagree. They told us months ago that this was the day. If they weren’t able to keep their word they should’ve moved the date back.”
“I agree. people need to lay off bungie. -blam!- happens, and people that can’t deal with the fact that -blam!- happens the most with a beta need to make sure they take every possible precaution not to reproduce. -blam!- selfish bastards can’t handle a little unexpected delay. Jesus christ it’s not like they aren’t trying everything they can do to get it off the ground.”
“Can we just stop with assuming all Crackdown beta people are d0uch3b4gs?
Don’t toss me into that category. This thread should be titled “To The Flamers” or something like that. Not what it is currently.”
“Agreed. I bought Crackdown for Crackdown itself, but, it was also nice to get the Beta. I could’ve tried to get into the Beta through the other methods, but this was one of the sure fire ways to get in. Everyone who got into the Beta this way isn’t an immature child, however, most of the people who did are portraying us like that. Please be open to new thoughts and don’t stereotype people because you think your better than them (elitism).”
“I think people have a right to be upset, Bungie and MS said a time and a date for people. People had to jump through hoops and or buy a 60 dollar game to get into it all to in the end help bungie beta test there game. While i am not personaly attacking calling them lazy or idiots, i know its complicated. Although stop making promise if you cant hold them up.. it would of been fine if they just one day released the beta , everyone would cheer bungie and build lots positive feelings. Now with this blunder could possible be fixed in a few hours or a few days, and builds bad feeling for there hardcore fans.”
“Who is going to be held responsible for these failures? Is someone going to get fired or will someone have courage and admit their mistakes and resign from their current position?”
“heres an idea stop being a puss and wait, its no-ones fault.”
“If it’s no one’s fault then why did something go wrong?”
“i think the geniuses at bungie should be held responsible. these idiots should have tested this crackdown method before hand seeing as how EVERYBODY bought one for the reason of being able to try the beta. instead these clowns decide hey, let’s play halo 3 ourselves days before the trial begins.”
Bungie should cancel the beta…
“..but not because they can’t get it to play nice with XBLA. They should cancel the open, public beta because that public that they are catering to is acting like a bunch of inconsiderate, unappreciative and disrespectful fifth graders.
People wonder why gamers have such a bad rap in our society, and I think this proves why. Since Halo 3 isn’t on time, the community is unleashing unneeded and ungrateful comments towards something that would have never happened a few years ago. Bungie knows that they don’t have to give you a beta to a game that will be releasing in a couple of months, but they are taking a chance that we, the gaming community, will be a resource for hunting for bugs and glitches.
And how do some in the community thank Bungie? But writing things like ‘Bungie NOOBS’ or ‘I missed work for THIS,” would only make Bungie want to decide to cancel the Beta altogether because the people they are going to be trusting with their software might not even help them, or are extremely unconsiderate. And even then, I can see the moderators of this board right now wondering if they should start banning people because they are blaming Bungie and Microsoft for the late delivery of this Beta. Unless you work for Microsoft or Bungie and can help provide a viable solution to fixing the problem with the Crackdown distribution client that Bungie and Microsoft are utilizing, don’t say things that paint a bad picture of Bungie OR Microsoft. It’s just foolish.
So, to all of those who want to blame Microsoft or Bungie for something they don’t really owe you, please think twice about looking like an inconsiderate jerk.”
“The only problem I see is that Bungie/MS have ignored there paying customers for 6hrs over the game that will make or break the 360.”
“Oh go fall down a hill Bungies not going to send u and f+f code for your brownnosing efforts.”
“The appreciative people are waiting patiently and realize this isn’t the end of the world. Hundreds of thousands of people undoubtedly own Crackdown yet we(gratefully), only see a handful of malcontents here.”
“Ugh, NO. It’s a tiny bit of the playerbase actually whinging on the forums- those who are content have no need to post, do they? There are NEVER any “I am happy, i am good fan” posts only “uggghh i H8 u lal” posts on any given forum.”
“They arent ignoring us, they said they’re fixing it, so they’re fixing it just be patient….I can say with confidence Bungie(being the best and most loyal game making company ever) will extend the beta, Im sure. It being just 3 short weeks, and this inconvience of the unable to download.”
“SEVEN AND A HALF -blam!- HOURS LATE AND ONE UPDATE SAYING “WERE WORKING ON IT” I DON’T CARE IF WHINING ISNT GOING THE CHANGE ANYTHING THIS IS COMPLETE -blam!- HORSE -blam!-”
“I agree. Microsoft sucks ass at fixing things.”
“i agree even though people keep saying this is not bungie’s fault it is their fault, however that they are not informing us, as they should be, it would help trim down the ammount of action on the forums.”
“Seven and a half hours?! ARE YOU INSANE?! -No. Be happy you’re getting to play such a fine game as Halo 3 is. I don’t even have a DOUBT in my mind that you will just play the game, annoy a good beta-tester - who reports all bugs he comes over - with your squeaky little voice, saying how much this game rocks and how much Bungie & Microsoft both suck *PIE* for their technical difficulties.”
“I agree, this is unacceptable this will not be simply tossed to the side like every other screw up this is a big issue. Get the beta up and extend the play date this is what you get with consoles nothing but problems and I am sick and tired of it!!!”
I was going to post more but it pretty much goes on like this for 100’s of pages. Good luck Bungie.

360 Shadowrun, $10 More
Xbox360 + Kotaku + Fanboys
05.16.2007 at 9:17 am
With the news that the Xbox 360s copy of Shadowrun is 10 bucks more than the PC version comes the avalanche of unhappy posters.
“So to sum that up: “We can charge what ever we like so STFU. Also we have to pay more to advertise the game because it’s exclusive so it’s your fault. NOW GIB M$ MUNNIES!!!”"
“I honestly don’t think they care much about the game at all. What they DO care about, is testing their little theory of how their little PC + 360 unified gaming structure is going to work, and what better way than a FPS, which is one of the key gaming types on both those systems.
Now, people on the Xbox are used to paying that price. Sure, not a very good excuse, but if they can nab an extra ten bucks, why the hell not, says MS. On the other side of the coin, all those people who are just buying new PCs preloaded with Vista might be looking for games ‘optimized’ for the system, and at an okay price point, that’s what they’re hoping people will pick up.
Honestly, if they get a hundred thousand people testing and playing the system, they can see what it looks like in action, see how they can market it better, etc. Never said anywhere this is some awesome plan or anything, but it almost feels like they’re using it for a test.”
“Stupid consumers (myself included) for letting them make it the standard price!
Before, it was to cover development costs… With a cheaper PC version, can’t exactly use that argument here!”
“Weak.
It’s priced that way because that’s how everyone else prices their games? I wasn’t aware that the industry standard was to price a multiplayer-only game at the same price as full-fledged games (with both singleplayer and multiplayer aspects).
To be fair, singleplayer-only games are fair game for full price, but I’ve always considered the multiplayer aspect of a game to be secondary (whether it is more fun that the singleplayer or not). Perhaps I’m wrong to think so, but the Warhawk comparison is a good one, considering that Sony plans to price that lower after scrapping the singleplayer campaign.
I would like to play the game, but it’s really not worth that much to me. I’ll wait for it to be $30 over Steam when they realize that plenty of people share that mentality.”
“You people arent even looking at the product. For only $10, youre not just getting a green case (superior to blue), youre getting better box art, and for the money, its a deal. Then again, i bought a PS3 before the inevitable price cut and will likely pick up flOw soon so you might not wish to seek my counsel on financial matters.”
“I’ve got no way to explain the disparity, but I can say I’m not that interested in buying either version. And frankly, I’m not feeling MS pushing people all that hard to buy it either.”
“I know this might break your heart, but Microsoft is a business. They’ll charge whatever they think people will pay. Apparently they think they can push the most PC units at $50 and the most 360 units at $60. And judging by the success of the company, they’re probably right. If you don’t want to pay that much - don’t buy it. Honestly, it’s as simple as that. Why waste your virtually breath whining?”
“PC users need the $10 after spending over $2000 on a rig that can play these games!”
“Paying 10 more for the console version is not that bad when you factor the price you have to pay for both vista and the pc. But, what is uber lame is the high price for multiplayer only. Look at half-life2, you pay 49$ for the game, and you get like 10 other games and mods like cs, dod, cs source, RICOCHET!(ew), and others. I wouldn’t pay 60 bucks for cs and I played that for years and I still play it, so why would I pay MS 60$ for the right to get my ass kicked by people who can play the game with keyboard and mouse.”
“The reason they charge more for the 360 version (which is no doubt the worse of the two versions) is because the vast majority of 360 owners have proven how much they just bend over and accept it in the past. It’s not complicated at all.”
“Here’s the thing. Companies are spending stupid money on games (how I don’t know as salaries and equipment don’t add up to nearly what the budgets say is being spent). They need to sell at an inflated price to re-coup that initial investment end of story. Even then they need to sell in excess of a million copies to break even. This can’t continue as the economics don’t add up. Some people somewhere are getting insanely rich on these 20 million budgets and it isn’t the salary men that make the games!”
“Yeah I thinkI will be giving shadow run a miss. Seriously publishers have to standardize thier pricing. I bought CC3 for the PC as well because it is cheaper than the price being qouted for the forthcoming xbox360 release. I love my 360 but more and more PC gaming is drawing me away from it.”
“… strop crying…
nobody would be saying anything if the pc version didn’t exist… cause 59.99$ is what you usually pay for a “current gen” (not next cause it’s OUT god dammit :) game…
Stop expecting stuff to be free cause it will never be… you don’t have to buy it if you think it’s too expensive… I’m sick of people crying about stuff on the marketplace and how expensive games are… get out of your parents basement, get a job, or find another hobby…
just like that do you know how much the “shadowrun” books cost?”

Keys to 360’s Victory
Xbox360 + GameDaily Biz
05.15.2007 at 8:31 am
GameDaily Biz has posted six points they believe will lead Microsoft to the console wars winners circle.
“Microsoft’s Xbox business may not be profitable at this stage, but you can’t deny that the company has made great strides in both market share and mindshare since entering the video game space back in November 2001. The Xbox 360 is in great shape, but to think that Microsoft has sewn up the console race simply because they’re ahead with 11 million shipped (5.3 million sold in the U.S.) would be foolish.
That said, although this article is not meant to be a predictor of things to come, we do think the 360 has a legitimate chance of taking the crown this generation if Microsoft follows these steps (listed in no particular order)”

Console Wars - Reuters
Xbox360 + PS3 + Wii + Reuters
04.03.2007 at 6:31 pm
Reuters has up an article concerning the state of the console battle. After taking a look at this Kotaku asked their readers who they think will come out on top. Here’s a small look at some of the replies.
“It’ll be the console with the coolest games.”
“When the dust settles, it will be the PS3, hands down. I’m no fan of the way SONY handles their business, but you can’t deny the strength of their product. Without Japan and Europe, the 360 doesn’t stand a chance (at winning, they could still end up turning profit). The Wii will do better than the GC, but second place will have to do. In four years, the PS3 will be at a mass market pricepoint; it will have a strong library of AAA titles; and a bolstering online community. No competition. Hell, I see myself owning one by next summer.”
“Well eventually all the consoles will have a strong base, but its cleary that the 360 and the wii will compete for the number one, and the PS3 for its price mostly, the one that may change gaming history is the DS, at this sales rate it may beat the PS2 in a few years…”
“PS3 will win, at least here in the UK/Europe. “PlayStation” is just the name for “videogames” as a whole over here, the brand is stronger than Xbox or Nintendo by far. You only have to look at the PS3s presence in the top 10 games and the strong first-weekends sales to see that this is PS3 country now.”
“I vote Wii. I’m not a “fanboy” or anything, I just prefer Nintendo systems. I like the simplistic nature of some games, yet I can still find a few good, hard games if I want.”
“I would buy a Wii. But. I have a HDTV. I didn’t buy it to play or use SDTV content.”
